What is it about this season of the year that spells “project time” to homeowners?

Take my neighborhood, for example. The backyard neighbors are building a tree house, the ones next door are building a deck and a pergola, while the ones just up the street are working to perfect an already picturesque garden as their kids do laps through the sprinkler. Yep, it’s officially summertime.

Along with plenty of outdoor hours spent on improving your existing landscape or home also comes a lot of fun time spent around the grill, the deck and, if you’re lucky, the pool. Whether your summer plans involve time in the water or grill-outs galore, this issue of Lynchburg Living, aptly named “The BIG Summer Issue,” was designed with you and your family in mind. From building, maintaining and upgrading outdoor living spaces to keeping the bugs at bay in your backyard or simply throwing some chicken on the barbie, we’ve included the know-how, tools, accessories and recipes to help get you started.

If you prefer to put your projects on hold this summer and get away, we’ve got you covered there as well. Read up on Buggs Island Lake in Clarksville, VA, in the TRAVEL section of this website, then pile the kids into the car for a long weekend on the water. Or choose to stay put and enjoy the vibrancy of Lynchburg, which was recently ranked 28th among Forbes magazine’s “Best Places for Business and Careers.” If you haven’t heard, that ranking also comes on the heels of the Hill City’s recently designated Arts District. Read more about both distinctions and their ripple effects under the THIS CITY link.

So, if your backyard is begging to host a big barbecue or you simply need a reminder as to why Lynchburg is such a great city to call home, we invite you to dive into this issue head first. We hope you find the contents refreshing, just in time for those 100 degree days.
