Living Out Loud
RESPONSE TO DAVID AND HEIDI’S STORY
Jon did a beautiful job on this article. We believe the Lord will be glorified through this and Heidi and David will be honored for their faithfulness to God. Donnie and I have cried a lot since reading it because it is a good reminder of how special they both were. We appreciate Jon’s dedication to this and his heart for proclaiming the Truth.

I loved the article “An Uncommon Love” by Jon Dupin. The story really hit home with me because I grew up in Lynchburg and my husband and I met at VA Tech. David and Heidi’s story reminds me a lot of my own story, but for some reason God has blessed us with a longer life than they were able to enjoy on this earth.

That was a great love story and very well written.

“BEST OF” DISAPPOINTMENT
As a full-time student at JMU coming back to my new home in Lynchburg for winter break, I was tickled to see the “Best of 2009″ piece in your magazine. It seemed like a great opportunity to see the charm of my new local favorites recognized, as well as a chance to discover some city gems that were worthy of attention. As I read on, I saw lots of great places I knew and lots of great-sounding places I didn’t know.
The only part that disturbed me was the amount of national chains that made the top spots of several categories. I’m enthusiastic about being a new Lynchburger, but I must say that I’m slightly disappointed in some of my fellow locals. I mean, Red Lobster as the number one seafood place? Come on, guys. There are so many things wrong with this, inferior quality and lack of unique, local flair among them. Perhaps you’ve never been to the Blue Marlin, but I suggest you voters give this and other independent establishments a try.
I know I am not alone in fearing the day that the colorful, southern city of Lynchburg becomes a flavorless extension of Northern Virginia. If you, too, don’t want this fate, please don’t ask for it.

I am a long-time businessman in Lynchburg. I saw a copy of your magazine in the restroom of a local business and read through it. Of particular interest was your listing of what you call “The Best of Lynchburg 2009.” I was not familiar with many of the retail establishments “honored” until I read through the rest of the magazine and saw the advertisements for most of these selected businesses. Perhaps you should have titled your article, “The Best of Lynchburg Who Advertise in Our Magazine.” I guess it also helps to be white.
Henry Vaughan
Editor’s Note: Neither race nor whether a business advertises in Lynchburg Living had any bearing on the results of the “Best Of 2009.” Each winner was nominated and voted for by our readers, and we simply reported the results. Of the 156 winners featured, 24 of them also choose to advertise with us in the January/February issue (15%). We would suggest to Mr. Vaughan that, as a local businessman, he take time to explore his own community to become more familiar with what thousands of other Lynchburgers voted as the “best” in town.
DRAMATIC RESULTS
Thank you so much for the outstanding article on the E.C. Glass drama program that appeared in the recent issue of Lynchburg Living. My telephone has been ringing off the hook with calls from folks who have really enjoyed reading the article. I sincerely appreciate all the work Donna Dunn put in to research and write the article; it was certainly a pleasure to work with such a talented professional. The entire magazine is such a wonderful publication – sophisticated, interesting, timely and classy! We are very honored and proud to be included in it and thank everyone at Lynchburg Living!

I have just seen and read the article on Glass Theatre in Lynchburg Living – Thank you so much!!!! I had kept up with Jim Ackley in November and December that he was speaking with the writer and had a feeling it was all going to work out well. It looks wonderful and I think will really bring Glass Theatre into the minds of many more people. Again, all my appreciation!
